Heat Pump Installation

A heat pump system not only offers the convenience of both heating and cooling from a single unit but can also help reduce your energy bills. Let us help you navigate the installation process for your new heat pump.

Heat pumps are classified according to how they transfer heat into or out of your home. It’s essential to research and understand these types before making a decision, ensuring you choose a heat pump system that aligns with your needs and budget.

Here are the common types of heat pumps available:

Air-Source Heat Pump: This type is widely used and works by extracting heat from the outside air to heat your home and vice versa for cooling.

Ground-Source Heat Pump: Also known as geothermal heat pumps, these systems utilize the stable temperature of the ground or groundwater to provide heating and cooling.

Water-Source Heat Pump: These systems use a body of water, such as a lake or pond, as a heat exchange source, offering efficient heating and cooling.

Hybrid Heat Pump Systems: These systems combine the features of air-source heat pumps with another heating technology, optimizing energy use and cost-effectiveness based on external conditions.

Ductless Mini Split Installation

Ductless mini splits are heat pump systems that offer superior control over heating and cooling on a room-by-room basis. They are incredibly flexible and ideal for both houses and condos. Let us help you find the best options to suit your specific needs and budget.

Here are the types you can consider:

Single-Zone Ductless Mini Splits: These are designed to heat or cool a single room, making them perfect for targeting specific areas in your home that need temperature regulation.

Multi-Zone Ductless Mini Splits: These systems can control the temperature in multiple rooms independently, providing a tailored heating and cooling solution across different spaces in your home.

Boiler Installation

Boilers are intricate hydronic heating systems that warm your home by circulating hot water through radiators, baseboards, or underfloor radiant heating systems. Regardless of the type of boiler system installed in your home, we can assist in finding options that best meet your heating needs and budget.

Here are some boiler types to consider:

High Efficiency Boilers: These boilers are designed to maximize energy use, reducing fuel consumption and lowering utility bills while providing effective heating.

Electric Boilers: Ideal for homes that lack access to natural gas, these boilers use electricity to heat water and are known for their simplicity and safety.

Gas Boilers: These are popular for their efficiency and cost-effectiveness, using natural gas as a fuel source to heat water which then heats your home.

Combination Boilers: Also known as combi boilers, these units provide both hot water and space heating from a single device, saving space and potentially reducing energy costs.

Furnace Installation

Furnaces are forced-air heating systems that warm your home by circulating warm air through ducts in the floors, walls, and ceilings. Whether you’re currently using a natural gas furnace or need an upgrade from an oil furnace, we can help find options that best fit your home, needs, and budget.

Here are some furnace types to consider:

High Efficiency Furnaces: These furnaces are designed to maximize energy use, minimizing fuel consumption and reducing heating costs while effectively warming your home.

Oil Furnaces: Ideal for areas where natural gas is not readily available, oil furnaces provide reliable heating and are known for their longevity and robust performance.

Natural Gas Furnaces: Popular for their efficiency and cost-effectiveness, these furnaces use natural gas to generate heat, making them a preferred choice in many homes.

Electric Furnaces: These furnaces use electricity to produce heat and are typically simpler in design and quieter than other types. They are often used where natural gas is not available.

Tony has been very responsive and walked me through the necessary steps to install a heat pump for cooling on top of an existing furnace. He took his time to explain the process and options for a installation job that some providers had no idea how to or shied away from. He accommodated my change in schedule as well. Tony and his crew showed up on time, completed the work on schedule and cleaned up quite well. We haven't had a chance to use the heat pump yet, but it was working well when tested. I wouldn't hesitate to contact Tony again.

Call Tony up about the furnace making a very unusual loud noise. He came in the day after diagnosis the problem, he have to go drive all the way to surrey from Vancouver to pick up the parts. He came in at 1pm and finished at 5pm. That's very efficient. And I never seen a guy that is so tidy and clean after he performed work in his professions . So he should be at 6 stars ratings

Tony and his team at TAK Heating and Cooling have completed three jobs for my house and rental house. They recently completed a hot water replacement for my house and installed a full AC unit back in 2022. More importantly, Tony came right away when my rental house's furnace stopped working and fixed the issue providing heat to my tenants again. What separates Tony and TAK Heating to other competitors is that he takes the time to make sure you understand exactly what the issue is and how to fix it, and follows up with you to make sure that all products installed is working properly and that you are satisfied with the service completed. He is very knowledgable and very easy to work with. I highly recommend Tony and his team for all of our heating and cooling needs.

We had a great experience with Tak Heating and Cooling today after they were recommended by a neighbour. I texted Tony at 7am as our 20+ yr old furnace had broken on one of the coldest nights of the year. He responded right away and him and Henry were at our home within a few hours. They diagnosed the problem right away (a broken reducer motor), set out to pick up replacement parts and had our furnace back up and running within a couple hours. Tony's communication and customer service was top notch. He is so polite and friendly. All costs were quoted ahead of time and the scope of work to be completed was explained before it took place. Appointment confirmation, quotes, invoices and receipts were all provided by emailed in a very timely manner. My husband and I felt confident in the quality of work we received and would recommend Tak to anyone needing HVAC services! Thank you Tony and Henry!

Coquitlam Heat Pump FAQs

What is the downside to a heat pump?

Heat pumps have a high upfront cost. However, their operating costs do translate into long-term savings on energy bills, leading to a path of reduced carbon emissions.

Do heat pumps work well in BC?

Yes, heat pumps can work well for residents in British Columbia (BC), and they are a popular choice due to several reasons:

Mild Climate: Much of BC, especially coastal areas like Vancouver, has a relatively mild climate. The temperatures rarely dip extremely low, which is optimal for heat pump efficiency. Air-source heat pumps, in particular, are very effective in these conditions because they can efficiently transfer heat at moderate temperatures.

Energy Efficiency: Heat pumps are known for their energy efficiency compared to traditional heating methods like furnaces and baseboard heaters. This efficiency can lead to significant savings on energy bills, which is attractive in areas with higher electricity costs but cheaper and cleaner hydroelectric power, like BC.

Environmental Benefits: BC has a strong commitment to reducing carbon emissions. Heat pumps are considered a cleaner technology as they use electricity rather than fossil fuels, aligning with the provincial goals for sustainability and green energy use.

Government Incentives: The BC government and various municipal governments offer incentives and rebates for the installation of energy-efficient heat pumps. These programs make it more financially accessible for residents to install heat pumps, encouraging their use over less environmentally friendly heating options.

Year-Round Use: Heat pumps offer both heating in the winter and cooling in the summer, making them an excellent all-in-one solution for the diverse climates throughout BC, from hotter summers in the interior to damp, cooler weather on the coast.
While heat pumps are generally a good option for BC residents, the effectiveness can vary based on specific local climates and the type of heat pump. For instance, areas that experience colder winters might benefit from newer models designed to work efficiently in lower temperatures or might consider dual systems that combine heat pumps with more traditional heating systems for optimal performance year-round.

How much does a new heat pump cost?

The cost of heat pumps in British Columbia (BC) can vary widely depending on several factors, including the type of heat pump, the size of the unit, installation complexities, and any additional equipment needed. Here’s a rough breakdown of the costs:

Air-Source Heat Pumps: Typically, air-source heat pumps cost between CAD $3,500 and $8,000 for the unit alone. Installation can add another $3,000 to $10,000 depending on the complexity of the system, existing ductwork, and other installation requirements.
Ground-Source (Geothermal) Heat Pumps: These are more expensive due to the extensive installation requirements. The total cost, including installation, can range from CAD $20,000 to $40,000 or more. However, they are much more efficient and can lead to greater long-term savings.
Ductless Mini-Split Heat Pumps: These units are ideal for homes without existing ductwork and typically range from CAD $3,000 to $5,000 per indoor unit, including installation. Costs can increase with the number of indoor units required.
Additional costs might include upgrading the home’s electrical system, modifying existing ductwork, or making other home improvements to accommodate the new system.

It’s also worth noting that various rebates and incentives are available to BC residents through programs like BC Hydro or FortisBC, which can significantly reduce the upfront cost of purchasing and installing a heat pump. These incentives are designed to make energy-efficient choices more accessible and appealing to homeowners, aligning with provincial goals for energy savings and emission reductions.
